The Jackson Town Council gave the go-ahead Monday night for four large condominium buildings at the base of Snow King, wrapping up a lengthy approval process that stirred debate about neighborhood compatibility.
Developed by Wisconsin-based Bear Development, the project spans three lots—53, 57, and 58—within the resort district. While council members unanimously approved plans for Lots 53 and 58, Lot 57 became a sticking point. Neighbors, led by the Grand View Condominium Association, voiced strong objections, arguing that one of the proposed buildings was out of character in its bulk, scale, and density compared to existing condos.
Richard Lurie, president of the association, criticized the plan as “overdeveloped” and raised concerns that Bear had misrepresented distances between nearby structures. Councilor Jonathan Schechter was the lone vote against Lot 57, citing those same issues.
Despite opposition, Bear Development CEO S.R. Mills celebrated the approvals, saying, “Just glad we got here, and I think we have a good project.”
Questions remain about the governance of the Snow King Resort Master Association (SKRMA), which oversees development approvals. Lurie previously alleged that the board’s composition violated the Snow King Master Plan, with residential property owners underrepresented compared to hotel and mountain interests. Though the county assessor confirmed residences hold more than twice the assessed valuation of hotel and mountain properties combined, SKRMA leadership maintains compliance.
For now, construction moves ahead—but with Lot 57 still casting a shadow over neighborhood relations.
