Chamber Says No To Jackson Themed Monopoly Board

On May 10, Rick Howe, President and CEO of the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce, sent an email to the business community stating that the chamber would not endorse a proposed Jackson-themed Monopoly game. The business proposing the game, Top Trumps from London, had not provided sufficient information for the chamber to make an informed decision, leading to the chamber’s decision not to support the project.

Top Trumps, which has been creating custom Monopoly editions since 1993 under license from Hasbro, was surprised by the chamber’s reaction. Aaron Green from Top Trumps noted that most towns are usually very excited about the opportunity. He emphasized that Top Trumps does not work with big box stores like Walmart but places thousands of units in local shops.

Green mentioned successful collaborations in Boise, Idaho, and the Lake Tahoe area, and shared his disappointing experience in Jackson, where he could not get meaningful engagement from the chamber. Howe explained that Green’s initial email arrived while he was at a conference and that they later discussed the proposal by phone.

Howe requested more detailed information from Green, including operational specs, timeline, and community benefits. He noted that the chamber has a formal process for vetting such proposals, which Green did not fully engage with.

There was confusion among chamber members about whether the chamber endorsed the game, especially regarding a rumored $20,000 buy-in for sponsored spots on the board. Green did not confirm this cost and stated that such financial details are not disclosed over phone calls or emails.

Despite the setbacks, Top Trumps is still developing the Jackson board and has invited community members to send their recommendations via email until June 28. The board will feature 12 to 14 properties, including landmarks and national parks, while retaining the classic player pieces for their nostalgic value.
